Gel Electrophoresis & Imaging
InstaView™ electrophoresis systems
Accuris Instruments has taken innovation to the next level with their new InstaView™ electrophoresis systems. These systems make the whole process of running DNA gels, viewing DNA bands and documenting results easy. All without removing the gel.
There are 2 myGel Instaview Systems Available:(1) E1201 InstaView Complete System with Power SupplyThe myGel InstaView comes complete with everything needed to cast, run and view mini electrophoresis gels, including an integrated power supply. One large (10.5x10cm) or small (10.5x6cm) gel is accommodated by the gel tank. Gels are easily poured using the supplied trays, combs and leak-proof casting stand. The power supply connects directly into the gel tank – no more leads to contend with. The connection is guaranteed to be right, every time.Output voltage can be adjusted to 35V, 50V or 100V and run time can be set for up to 99 minutes. A magnetic interlock between the gel tank and the lid prevents current from running through the system when the lid is not properly in place.
Once the myGel InstaView System is set up, simply slide the mini LED transilluminator into place under the tank and at any time turn it on to view the run in real time. An array of blue LEDs emits bright blue light at a wavelength of 465nm for optimal excitation of common green fluorescent stains such as SmartGlow™, SYBYR™ Green and Gel Green, without damaging DNA. An orange filter is incorporated into the lid for visualizing DNA bands without any additional equipment or special glasses. When it’s time to document results, place the included gel imaging enclosure over top of the myGel InstaView, and use the camera app on any smart phone to capture high resolution images without removing the gel from the tank.Images are easily shared via email or text message or printed.
(2) E1200 InstaView Gel Tank System – Connect your own power supplyFor labs that prefer to use a separate power supply, the InstaView Gel Tank is the perfect choice for running, viewing and documenting electrophoretic separations. The InstaView Gel Tank accommodates one large (10.5x10cm) or one small (10.5x6cm) gel tray and is supplied with trays, combs and a leak-proof casting stand. The gel tank lid includes attached power leads which prevent the unit from operating without the lid properly in place. Any standard power supply can be connected, including the Accuris myVolt™ Mini and myVolt Touch. The InstaView Gel Tank is shaped to allow the mini LED transilluminator (included) to slide underneath. Blue light, at a wavelength of 465nm, provides excitation of common green fluorescent stains such as SmartGlow™, SYBR™ Green, and GelGreen. An orange filter is incorporated into the gel tank lid for visualizing the DNA in the gel box without any additional equipment or glasses. The transilluminator can be turned on at any time during a run to track progress, and automatically shuts off after 5 minutes.
After electrophoresis, simply place the included imaging enclosure over the InstaView Gel Tank to capture high resolution images with a smart phone. Images are easily printed or shared via email or text message.

SmartBlue Transilluminators
Accuris SmartBlue Transilluminators have been developed for viewing DNA gels stained with new, safe fluorescent dyes. These new dyes, such as SmartGlow, SYBR Green, Gel Green, have an excitation wavelength of 465-470nm (visible blue light), and are safer to use than Ethidium Bromide.
Safer for samples, safer for you: Accuris SmartBlue Transilluminators are the perfect partner for the most common safe DNA stains. These instruments emit blue light at a wavelength of 465nm, perfect for excitation of most green fluorophors, including our Accuris’ SmartGlow™, SYBR Green, SYBR Safe, SYBR Gold, GelStar, GelGreen, to name a few. SmartBlue transilluminators can also works for excitation of EtBr (though fluorescence is not as bright as with UV), see our Technical Bulletin with sample images. Exposing DNA to blue wavelength does not cause molecular damage, and results in a much higher downstream cloning efficiency as compared to even short UV light exposures. In addition, the visible blue light is not damaging to the user’s skin and is less harmful to the eyes.*Adjustable filter cover: Both the E4101 and E4000 transilluminators come with emission filter covers. These amber covers, which rest above the viewing surface and gel, filter out the blue light, allowing the fluorescing DNA bands to be seen clearly. The covers can be set to a flat position for general gel viewing or can be set at an angle to provide easy access to the gel for band excision. The E4000 has a two-position filter cover, and the E4101 features a hinged filter cover.
Optional amber viewing glasses: Our E4000-VG1 SmartBlue Plus Viewing Glasses offer efficient blocking of the blue light wavelength from the transilluminators, allowing clear visualization of the fluorescing DNA bands without the filter cover in place. These convenient glasses are recommended for users that are frequently excising DNA bands from gels. SmartBlue Plus glasses also block 100% of UV wavelength so they can also be used for viewing gels on a UV transilluminator.
UI technology, bright and clear images: The bright LED light plates and filter layer provides an extremely evenly lit viewing surface. Even in ambient light, bands of DNA can clearly be seen in stained gels. Images obtained using the SmartBlue Transilluminator are brighter and more balanced than those obtained using epi-illuminators which light from the sides.Reliable, durable and long lasting: An array of super bright LEDs with a long, 30,000 hour service life provide the light source for the SmartBlue Transilluminators. Unlike those in a UV transilluminator, the filters in the SmartBlue systems will not solarize and degrade in performance over time. Gel bands can be excised directly on the scratch resistant, glass viewing surfaces. To save energy, the power switch includes an automatic 5 minute shutoff. SmartBlue Transilluminators are covered by a 2 year warranty.
* The SmartBlue products use high intensity LED lights. Although the visible blue wavelength is significantly safer than UV light, it is recommended to not stare directly at the viewing surface without the amber cover in place.

UV Transilluminators
Accuris™ UV Transilluminators feature space-saving designs, to fit perfectly in any busy laboratory. Three models are available, with a range of intensity settings and viewing surface sizes. Choose your model depending on your application and the size or number of gels to analyze.
E3000 UV TransilluminatorThe E3000 features a space-saving design, with a width of only 10.5 inches, to fit perfectly in any busy laboratory. However, the 16 x 19 cm UV viewing surface is sized to accommodate large gels or multiple smaller gels. The illuminated surface is comprised of a special black glass which is easy to clean, durable and scratch resistant.
An array of 4 high intensity UV bulbs coupled with an optimized filter provides even illumination across the viewing surface and allows detection of small sample quantities. The dual intensity switch can be used to lower the UV intensity to 50% to reduce DNA damage during long exposure times, or switch to high intensity (100%) for viewing weak fluorescent signals or for photo documentation.
E3100 UV TransilluminatorThe E3100 has a surprisingly small footprint (smaller than a standard piece of paper), and modern design. The viewing surface – 16.5 x 13.5 cm filter glass – is large enough to accommodate a mid-sized gel or multiple smaller gels. The E3100 is perfectly suited for use with our SmartDoc ™ Imaging Enclosure and filters (sold separately) for gel imaging with a smartphone. Use filter E5001-UVBLOCK for best results when imaging SmartGlow, SYBR or ETBR stained gels.
E3200 UV TransilluminatorThe E3200 offers a large viewing surface of 21 x 26 cm to accommodate larger gels or multiple small gels. High powered, 14-Watt UV bulbs provide higher sensitivity, so the smallest bands of stained nucleic acids can be visualized. The E3200 also features a control knob for continuous adjustment of the UV intensity.
All Accuris UV Transilluminators incorporate scratch-resistant, UV filter glass. Peak output emission of 302nm is ideal for excitation of gels stained with Ethidium Bromide, SmartGlow™, SYBR® Green and other common gel stains.
Acrylic UV blocking covers allow safe viewing of samples, and friction hinges on the front edge allow positioning of the cover at an angle for gel access.
